This was our position at noon today (red circle with yellow arrow). We were basically half way from Grand Cayman to our next port, Cartagena, Columbia. It was 84 degrees outside with winds gusting to over 35 knots. The Captain makes a PA announcement at noon every sea day. He said the winds would be picking up to 45 knots this afternoon and night so our ride would be getting even more rough. We had lunch in Compass Rose on deck 5 and a wave hit the dining room windows.
Last night we dined in Compass Rose, the main dining room. Since the ship went through a major dry dock refit last spring, the dining room is really beautiful. Rebecca had an excellent bow tie pasta with shrimp for her entree and I had chicken kiev. After dinner we went to the theater for the headliner showtime which I talked about in yesterday's post. He was quite a funny man and we enjoyed his show.
On Sundays they served champagne and caviar in Compass Rose so we had breakfast there today. Eggs benedict is also a breakfast option on Sundays which I enjoyed.
After that we went to the theater for an interdenominational church service lead by Jamie, our cruise director and his wife, Dana. They hold a service every Sunday that we are at sea that lasts about 30 minutes.
As I said we brought 8 large pieces of luggage and 2 carry on size with us. So where did we put all our "stuff"?? Below is a plastic shoe holder the hangs on our closet door. I bought it on Amazon for less than $10. It holds all of Rebecca's shoes so they are not piled up on closet floor.
We had Regent put on board for us the two additional chests of drawers shown below. They are the ones on right side.
In addition in the bathroom, we had them cover the bath tub with plywood so we can sit two pieces if luggage on it. That way we can use them to also as a place to put clothes. Above that they attached a rod so we can hang clothes on. So we really have plenty of room for our "stuff".
MEET THE CREW:
This is Kadek and he is from Bali. I think this is our 3rd cruise with him. I call him my son now. Kadek is 32 years old and has been working for Regent since 2011. He started in the house keeping department but was promoted quickly to a bar waiter. Since 2015 he has been a bartender. He has a wife and a 2 year old son now but at 8:00pm tonight his wife will be giving birth to another son via ceasarian. He is suppose to leave the ship for vacation in Hawaii but he is trying to extend until we arrive in Bali in March. At home he enjoys playing with his son, internet games, soccer, and cooking.
His daily schedule on board is working from 6am to 11:30am and again from 6pm to 10:30pm. Between 11:30 and 6pm he has lunch and takes a nap.
This evening is the Captain's Welcome Aboard reception followed by dinner. There will be a receiving line of the ship's officers and then the Captain will introduce the senior staff members. It is a formal optional dress night so I will wearing my tuxedo. Rebecca, Susanne Peters, and I have been invited to join the Food & Beverage Director and Head Housekeeper for dinner. After dinner is the first production show. We are disappointed in that Regent has replaced the Jean Ann Ryan company with NCL singers and dancers. So I will reserve judgement until after their first show.
