WHAT WE DID LAST NIGHT:
We dined in Compass Rose and really enjoyed the beef Wellington. It was cooked just like we wanted it and was probably best we have ever had.
Like the Oinkers we are, we also shared some lobster Newburg. The beef was much better.
Shirley's show with her electric harp and really good.
WHAT WE DID TODAY:
Last night was the roughest ride we have had so far. Rebecca did not sleep well because she has come down with a cold and had problems breathing. She was using nose spray many times during the night. So neither of us slept very well.
It was too rough to workout this morning. Staying on the treadmill would have been almost impossible. We enjoyed room service breakfast and watched Trump's inauguration on FOX NEWS channel on the tv. We are scheduled to be docked by noon at the pier in San Diego. The cruise ship pier is close to downtown.
Before anyone can leave the ship we must clear US Immigration. They will set up on board and we all have to show our passports in person to one of the officials. They will do the passengers going on tours first. We cancelled our two hour "San Diego by Trolley" excursion because of the weather. It is rainy and cool morning. 57 degrees now. Our plan for this afternoon is to take Uber to a Sally's Beauty Supply and Walgreens about five miles from the pier. Rebecca needs some "stuff". We have never used Uber before. For today and tomorrow we can use our cell phones again. We have had them in airplane mode to avoid international roaming charges which are expensive.
The ship is expecting an inspection by the US Health Department either today or tomorrow so I just saw the F&B manager, restaurant manager, and other supervisor going around checking temperatures and cleanliness of all food venues. All cruise ships operating in and out of US ports must be inspected twice every year. This is a very big deal for the ship's senior management and the cruise line.
We will be dining with Susanne in Compass Rose this evening. I have ordered a special dinner consisting of French fried soft shell crabs as an appetizer followed by miso glazed sea bass for the entree. There is no show tonight. A movie will be shown in the theater instead. We can watch it on our suite tv too.
MEET THE CREW:
Please meet Gaukhar. She is 24 years old and from Kazakhstan in central Asia. Her country used to part of the old USSR. Her college degree is in information systems and worked in a bank prior to joining Regent 6 months ago in order to see the world. She is a single lady and super nice. On board she works as an assistant waitress in Compass Rose and loves meeting us passengers. Her hobbies include: reading, being with friends, and exercising.
This is Nemanja who is 29 years old and from Serbia. This is the end of his first contract with Regent and will be leaving the ship tomorrow for Serbia. He started working in hotels at age 17 while still in high school. During the days he is responsible for making sure the coffee connection is stocked with food and that the coffee machine is operating. During the evenings he is a waiter in Compass Rose. His hobby at home is playing the guitar and jamming with other friends.
Change in plans for today. Rebecca has decided to go down to see the ship's doctor at 6:00 pm today. So now we will stay on board today and wait until tomorrow for going to Sally's and Walgreens in case he prescribes medication for her stopped up head. It is a nasty day outside today anyway. Just talked to a friend who just came back from being off ship for an hour. He said the rain is coming down sideways due to the wind and recommended NOT going out.
We will be here in San Diego again tomorrow so hope the weather is better. Forecast not looking good though.
