DAY 22-HONOLULU, HAWAII

Docked here at 1:00 pm.  Will be here until midnight.  It is 78 degrees.

                                               Diamond Head
                                              Honolulu
View from our balcony from pier in Honolulu.
WHAT WE DID LAST NIGHT:
We decided not to do the "block party" yesterday evening.  Instead, we went to the Navigator Lounge for pre-dinner cocktails.  Tonight is the last night for Kadek there as the bartender.  He will be leaving the ship tomorrow and flying home to Bali.  There he will be seeing his new son who was born on January 9th.  We will miss him.
Desk in our suite.  New addition yesterday as they brought me some Makers Mark.
Melody & David Hermann (seated in center) celebrated their 51st anniversary last night in Compass Rose.  We were included and it was a really nice dinner party.

WHAT WE DID TODAY:
This afternoon was the first of three special events for only us full world cruise passengers.  It is called "Lolani Palace & Fashion Show".  Buses departed the ship just before 4:00 pm for the Lolani Palace.  It was the only official state residence of royalty in the United States.  It was the formal residence of the Hawaiian Kingdom's last two monarch:  King Kalakaua, who built the Palace in 1882, and his sister who succeeded him, Queen Lili'uokalani.
The itinerary was to be greeting at the Palace with flower leis and children doing the hula dance.  A self guided tour of the Palace.  After that drinks and canapes on the barracks lawn. The Royal Guard did a drill routine prior to a fashion show showcasing ancient attire and monarch gowns.
I have been having a pain in my neck and between shoulders for a few days now.  It is not getting better so thought I better have the ship's doctor look at it while we are still in "civilization" for the next three days.  She may have to refer me to a doctor here on one of the islands.  Next doctor's call is at 6:00 pm so we decided not to go to the Palace as described above.  That does not get back to ship until 6:30 or later.
Instead, we decided to go to Costco!!  The idea was to take Uber but when we got to street it said due to high demand it would cost $27.  So I said let's walk.  BIG mistake.  But off we went.  We did find a Walmart and we found China town (pictured above) but we pooped out before finding Costco. I got a Uber ride for $6.  Turns out we were just a few blocks away so had to laugh.  Got some protein bars and a big bag of mini candy bars and took Uber back to the ship.  We got back at 4:30 and headed to the Navigator Lounge for a cappuccino and Coke Zero.  Very quiet on the ship as most passengers went to the special event.
After seeing the doctor, we will be meeting Susanne for cocktails followed by dinner in Compass Rose.  The chef is preparing veal parmesan again for the three of us tonight.  Jamie is bringing on board a local Hawaiian group and some hula dancers for the show tonight.  We plan on seeing that.
We sail at midnight and will be in Lahaina on Maui at 8:00 am tomorrow.
