Today we were suppose to visit the “Garden Island” of Hawaii, Kauai. It is widely considered the most beautiful of all the islands and geologically, the oldest (6 million years old) of the main Hawaiian islands. At 33 miles by 35 miles in size it is the 4th largest main island located 105 miles to the northwest of Oahu. As with the other Hawaiian islands, it was formed by volcanoes and is one of the wettest places on the Earth. Tourism has replaced sugar cane as the largest industry here. Another interesting thing about Kauai is that it is home to thousands of wild chickens. Because of the island’s beauty, it has been the setting for some of Hollywood’s most famous movies and tv shows: “Fantacy Island”, “South Pacific”, “Blue Hawaii”, “Gilligan’s Island”, and “Wackiest Ship in the Army” plus many more.
To enter the port at Nawiliwili we would have to go through a narrow channel and our Captain said it was just to dangerous to try it due to the strong winds. So this port of call was cancelled and we would now have a day at sea. We are now slowly sailing to our next port, Hilo, on the Big Island of Hawaii.
We were on Kauai on our Regent cruise in 2014 from Miami to Tahiti. Here is the link to the photos I took back then. There are over 100 photos taken on a beautiful day. You will probably have to "cut & paste" the link onto your browzer.

At 9:15 this morning I went to an interdenominational church service led by our cruise director, Jamie. We will probably watch a movie this afternoon or just relax in our suite. This evening we will be dining in Prime 7, the steakhouse. I am going to go ahead and publish this post now, even though it is still morning here.
WHAT WE DID LAST NIGHT:
My dessert last night was lemon pie.
