Docked in Mumbai this morning just after 10:00. Visibility in harbor was reduced due to a lot of morning haze due to the humidity. Temperature in afternoon 94F.
BACKGROUND INFO:
Ok, this used to be called Bombay until 1995. Why do these countries mess with history?? So with a city population of over 18 million, Mumbai is India’s most populous city and ninth most populous in the world. We spent two days here back in 2013. Hopefully I’ll be more impressed this time as we will be here another two days this visit. Several passengers are doing an overnight trip to see the Taj Mahal but we have no desire to see it.
Mumbai is the financial, commercial, and entertainment capital of India, as well as wealthiest. I find it incredible that it is ranked 6th among to ten global cities on the billionaire count. All I see in the streets are beggars, panhandlers, hawkers, snake charmers, etc. Until the 1970’s it mainly owed its prosperity to textile mills and the seaport. Now it has diversified to include finance, engineering, diamond polishing, healthcare, and IT (remember that Dell guy on phone). State and central government employees make up a large percentage of the city’s workforce. Mumbai is also the center of the Hindi movie industry, “Bollywood”. Here’s one for ya! Because cows are holy in India, Mc Donald’s does not serve hamburgers, just chicken or vegetarian burgers.
WHAT WE DID TODAY:
We did out workouts earlier this morning because Indian immigration was on board to check everyone's passport with Indian visa. We were called down about 11:30 to meet with them. I was thinking about walking into town (15 minute walk) but it is just too hot and humid to be out walking. We have a tour tomorrow morning so will get photos then.
I had lunch in Compass Rose with Susanne while Rebecca had her protein bar. I ate healthy with Caesar salad and grilled shrimp. This evening they are having a "Grand Deck BBQ Under the Stars" up on pool deck. Not sure who is crazy enough to want to sit out in this heat and humidity to eat. NOT US!! There are over 100 folks off the ship on overland tour to Taj Mahal, then there is an excursion this evening that includes dinner in Mumbai. So I am not expecting to see too many in dining in Compass Rose this evening. We will, as veal osso bucco is on the menu and that is a favorite of ours. Will have some escargot as appetizer too. No show tonight. They are showing a movie, "Patriots Day", in the theater instead. We can watch it in our suite, if we choose also.
I took some photos this morning of port from the ship but will wait until I have tomorrow's photos uploaded to post them. In the meantime, here is the link to the photos I took back in 2013. The skies are perfectly blue back then so photos will be better than this year's.

We will be here over night and will not depart until 5:00 pm tomorrow. I'm ready to go now!
You've probably figured out we do not care for this country.
