DAY 67-JAVA SEA OFF INDONESIA

Our position today at noon.  Cruising in the Java Sea with Indonesia islands on both sides of us but we are too far out to see any of them.  Once again, today we are blessed with very smooth seas with NO noticeable ship movement.  It is 83 degrees with 80% humidity up on outer deck.  We will be at sea again tomorrow and will cross the Equator again around 4:00 pm. tomorrow.

WHAT WE DID TODAY:
We were up at 7:15 this morning as Rebecca's room service is usually scheduled for a 7:30 delivery and they are VERY punctual.  I immediately started the photo upload as still had 97 to go from yesterday.  It is a slow process again today.  Maybe it will be complete by sometime this afternoon.  It's a very frustrating process but you will be enjoying my photos.  Bali is a beautiful island and the people are nice and friendly.  One thing we did notice when talking with older Balinese is their teeth.  Actually, lack of teeth.  Some of the people we met in the local market yesterday were lucky to have two or three teeth.  Dentistry in Indonesia as a whole is not good and what there is, the people cannot afford.
WHOA!!!!!  At 2:00 we ran into a storm.  Never experienced something like this that came up so suddenly and was this severe.  First noticed the ship listing big time to the starboard (right) side.  I turned on the interactive tv channel with bridge camera showing what is in front of us.  Saw storm clouds and thought the ship was listing because they were turning ship abruptly to avoid storm.  But then turned to channel showing weather conditions.  We were experiencing hurricane force winds of 75 mph from our port side causing ship to list to starboard.  Amazingly, we still had a fairly good ride.  Now 30 minutes later we seem to be through the wind portion of the storm but still raining and low visibility.  Well, that was certainly exciting!!  Something for passengers to talk about at dinner later tonight.
Brad & Carla Sue from Louisville, KY, invited us to join their group for lunch today in Compass Rose.  Rebecca declined as is dieting and having protein bars for lunch now.  Not me!!  They had asked the chef to make a sandwich called "hot brown" and is a famous sandwich in Louisville.  The owner of the Brown Hotel in Louisville came up with this sandwich back in 20's or 30's.  Brown Hotel is similar to what the Peabody Hotel in Memphis is.  Anyway, everyone who comes to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby has to have a hot brown.
When the waiter put this in front of Carla Sue, she giggled.  Apparently not close to what it is suppose to be.  I guess when Brad described it to Chef Michael, something was lost in the translation. It is suppose to be a thick piece of bread with lots of turkey, covered with cheese, put under broiler, and bacon on top.  Here we had thin bread and not much turkey but it tasted very good.
After we survived the storm we decided to watch a movie, "Keeping up with the Joneses".  Silly movie but entertaining.  Had to do something while photos were still be uploaded.
This evening is the Captain's Farewell Reception and Krew Kapers show (show put on by some of the crew members).  There are some very talented crew members on the ships.  It is a formal optional dress code night so I will be wearing my dinner jacket.  We love to get dressed up.  Singapore, day after tomorrow will be the end of the third segment of the world cruise so big crew and passenger change over.  That's why a "farewell" reception.  We especially like it because beef Wellington is always one of the menu options at dinner.  Miso sea bass last night and beef Wellington tonight.  Doesn't get better than this!!  Will have some escargot as our appetizers.  Show in theater tonight is the Japanese harmonica player's second show.  We liked his first show so want to go tonight too.  Karen, the Aussie singer, last night had a great voice and the sound guy did not sabotage her this time, BUT, I left after two songs because I could not stand to listen to her talk and tell silly stories. Rebecca stayed for the whole show.
Well, tomorrow is another day at sea with Equator crossing again at 4:00 pm.  We'll be back in the Northern Hemisphere.

Day 2 Bali photo link was posted today on separate posting.
