GOT TODAY'S PHOTOS ON THIS POST SAME EVENING AS LAST POST.
I had forgotten just how dirty and run down India is. Of course, my tour did not go to the new part of the city so I am hoping that was cleaner and more up to date. My tour started with an hour and half drive to the town of Alleppey where we boarded boats for a backwater tour. I cannot describe in words what I saw during this drive. I doubt my photos can adequately depict the disgusting filth either. The infrastructure is in serious need of massive upgrading. The road we were on was very rough and overcrowded. You would not believe the amount of trash, garbage, abandoned vehicles and God knows what else there was ALL along the miles of national highway we traveled on. It was two lanes in each direction but really three lanes used. These people have no respect for decency, however they were all very nice.
Our guide said the young people tried to leave and go to the USA, Canada, Australia, or the Emirates for better paying jobs. That was the first option for employment. Second, was government jobs as they paid better than most others. Teachers worked for the government and made $50 to $75 per day. Government workers retire at age 55 with 40% of their salary in retirement pay. The third best job is working in IT (for example a Dell call center). He also said in some of the Indian states, it was a crime to kill a cow. I wasn't in this state of Kerala. He said people here, even the Hindus, eat beef.
We're back from dinner now and I have finished with uploading and putting captions on today's photos. There are two twin brothers who are waiters in Compass Rose: Vishnu and Shambu. They are from Cochin and we dined with Vishnu tonight. He asked what I thought of Cochin. I had to evade his question as did not want to tell him my true feelings. They are great guys and EXCELLENT waiters. I could not hurt their feelings.
Here is the link to today's Cochin photos. I hope you will enjoy them.

It is 9:30 pm and my bed time. We are sailing for Mangalore and will be arriving there at 8:00 tomorrow morning. I have a tour at 8:45 am. I better treat my arm and get some sleep.
