DAY 116-LISBON, PORTUGAL

Update on my dad's pacemaker procedure.  It is 6:00 pm here in Lisbon but noon back in Illinois.  Just talked to my younger sister and she said doctor just came out of surgery and talked to them.  All went well and they are taking dad to ICU for the night.  So far so good!!!

We are docked in Lisbon, Spain, today.  Like yesterday in Cadiz, it is an absolutely beautiful day.  Clear blue skies and afternoon temperature of 70F.
Tonight we start our journey across the Atlantic Ocean to Miami with two stops enroute:  the islands of Madeira and Bermuda.

BACKGROUND INFO:
Today we are docked in Lisbon, the capital and largest city in Portugal since the 13th century.  With an urban population of 2.8 million, this represents 27% of Portugal’s total population.  The port is one of the largest container ports on Europe’s west coast.  Nearly 2 million tourists visit the city every year making it the 7th most visited in Europe.  It is the oldest city in Western Europe.

WHAT WE DID TODAY:
For the first time in two months, the ship was rocking and rolling last night.  We arrived at our pier in Lisbon earlier than our scheduled 10:00 am time.  Unfortunately our dock is not the one close to the old part of the city as there were already two large ships there.
We took the first shuttle into the city.  It was suppose to leave at 10:30 but was half hour late arriving at the pier.  It was a 25 minute ride to the drop off place which was at a cafe on a big plaza.  Next to the cafe was a McDonalds.  There really was not much to take photos of but it was a beautiful day just to walk around.  We caught the bus back to the ship an hour later at noon.
Rebecca splurged today at lunch and had a hamburger.  We dined up on the pool deck since it was so nice out today.  We are not departing until 10:00 pm tonight so the Food & Beverage team is having a "Grand BBQ Under the Stars" on the pool deck starting at 7:00.  I may go up and take some photos but we will be dining in Compass Rose with our friend, Susanne.  I want to catch tonight's headliner show as it is featuring the pianist, Naki Ataman.  We missed his first show and people said it was very good.
This afternoon it was so nice I went up and walked for an hour on the upper deck track.  They were setting up the tables and serving pieces for tonight on the pool deck just below me.  It's amazing how organized it is.  After that I sat out on my balcony and watched the passengers and crew returning to the ship just below me.  I saw several passengers bringing back new suitcases.  One lady had two, big new ones!
As I said we sail tonight at 10:00 and we will be at sea tomorrow in the Atlantic Ocean.  Here is the link to the photos I took today in Lisbon.
