DAY 115-CADIZ, SPAIN

Our position today is in Cadiz, Spain.  Perfect weather today.  Blue skies and mid 60's.

BACKGROUND INFO:
Less than 200 miles further around the west coast of Spain from Gibraltar is today’s stop in the port at Cadiz.  Founded in 1100 BC by the Phoenicians, Cadiz is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Spain and one of the oldest in western Europe.  It is also the homeport for the Spanish navy and has remained one of Spain's main ports for almost a thousand years.  Seville, Spain’s 4th largest city, is located just 90 miles north so some of the ship’s excursions today will be to tour it.  Another popular tour that we have done on a previous cruise, is to visit the white-washed villages with cobblestone streets of Andalusia.  We saw that in 2013.

WHAT WE DID TODAY:
But today, our, “Scenic Cadiz & Flanenco”  excursion featured a scenic drive through Cadiz checking out the important city landmarks.  Rebecca did not go.  I did the 40 minute bus ride through the city but when they got off the bus for the walking tour of the city, I came back the ship.  Most all the shops are closed today.  I asked them why and all I got was, "It's a day off".  Seems like we have had more ports during this cruise where it's either a Sunday or holiday and shops are closed.  The old part of Cadiz is just across from the cruise terminal so I did my own walking tour of the city later.  I met my original tour group at 11:35 at the Flamenco La Cava to see a flamenco dance performance with guitar and singer.  Here there were also some tapas and “beverages”.  I had a couple sangrias with my tapas (snacks).  I got to the La Cava before the tour groups showed up so I got a front row table.  Four other women from the ship were also at my table.  The 45 minute show was super.  No videos were allowed but I got some still photos.
I walked back to the ship on my own and beat my tour group back.  Today was so beautiful and I really enjoyed my walk in city.  I almost went back in town after having a hotdog and uploading today's photos but decided to workout instead.
It is now 4:00 pm here and 9:00 am in my home town of Flora, Illinois.  I will be calling home to talk to my parents soon as my dad (90) is getting a pacemaker put in tomorrow morning.  Praying all goes well with that.
We are sailing at 5:00 for our next port of call, Lisbon, Portugal.  Scheduled arrival time there is 10:00 am.
