Our position at noon today. Smooth sailing again today with outside temperature of 86 degrees.
WHAT WE DID TODAY:
Palm Sunday
Rebecca's head is stopped up again so having problem breathing when lying down. As a result, neither of us had a good night's sleep. Just not sure why she cannot stay healthy. We are both scheduled for a 10 hour tour when we get to Aqaba, Jordan, on Tuesday. It is to the amazing ancient ruins at Petra. She has until 8:00 tonight to decide whether or not to cancel it. It is one of the tours I paid an extra $159 pp to do it. We both did same tour back in 2013 and it was no extra charge tour back then.
At 9:00 this morning I went to a Palm Sunday service lead by Jamie, our cruise director. He does a great job with Sunday services when we are at sea. He announced there will be a Good Friday service this Friday since we will be at sea again. Our Easter Sunday service will be held Saturday evening since we will be in Israel on Sunday. Israeli immigration will want to meet with everyone individually to check passports prior to a lot of long tours going out that morning.
The ship came to a stop momentarily while I was in the church service this morning. Our special security force and their weapons left the ship. They are probably being transported to another ship and going back through the pirate's area. We now have Saudi Arabia on our right side and Sudan on our left.
I did not workout this morning as usual but went to a lecture instead. Normally Rebecca has one of her protein bars for lunch but today we went up to La Veranda buffet as they had salmon in puff pastry which is one of our favorites.
Salmon in puff pastry-our lunch
This evening is another Seven Seas Society cocktail party which we do not attend anymore after being shunned during our South America cruise a year ago when we became "Titanium" (highest level) members. The good thing we like about these events is the chef always has miso sea bass on the Compass Rose restaurant menu. Love that! Tonight's show once again features the UK singing group, "Ancora". Their first show was fantastic so want to see them again tonight.
Miso marinaded sea bass with sticky rice--our dinner
This evening we will be passing by the coastal city of Juddah, Saudi Arabia, and Mecca which is 43 miles inland from it. Mecca is the birthplace of Muhammad and the site of Muhammad's first revelation of the Quran. As such, Mecca is regarded as the holiest city in the religion of Islam. The world's largest mosque, Grand Mosque of Mecca, is located here and a pilgrimage (called a Hajj) is obligatory for all able Muslims sometime during their life.
Just saw on FOX NEWS that a church was bombed in Egypt during a service. We will be docked in Egypt next Wednesday and Thursday. Back in 1997 62 tourists were killed by a terrorist attack at a ancient temple in the Valley of the Kings. I will be visiting that same temple on Thursday on my tour. Tomorrow will be another day cruising in the Red Sea.
