DAY 109-CIVITAVECCHIA (ROME, ITALY)

Déjà vu!  We arrived at 8:00 this morning in the port city for Rome, Civitavecchia.  Yes, we have been here several times on previous cruises.  And yes, we have toured Rome several times already so please excuse us as we are not going into Rome today.  The excursions to Rome are all day ones which include a 1 ½ hour bus rides minimum each way.  I suspect most folks are headed into Rome.

BACKGROUND INFO:
Once again you'll have to forgive me as I would be writing for days about Rome with all its history, architecture, and cultural aspects.  I recommend you come to see it but plan of a few days to cover it all.

WHAT WE DID TODAY:
The ship is like a ghost town today with most off doing tours.  There are some kids running around as some of the crew is Italian and their families came on board to see the ship.  Our Captain is Italian so I am sure his family is on board today.
After our workouts and getting cleaned up, I took the port shuttle into town.  It is a holiday here today.  Liberation Day in Italy so basically everything is closed.  When I reached town there was a large group of people down the street resembling a protest so I went to check it out.  It was actually a kind of memorial ceremony for their liberation.  The holiday commemorates the end of the Italian Civil War and the end of Nazi occupation of Italy during WWII.  As you will see in my photos taken today, there was a street market of sorts with lots of people checking things out.  Some stores on that street were also open.  There was also a Maserati car rally in one park so I checked that out.  Yes, I got you a photo of a cathedral!!
I just missed the shuttle bus to return to the ship so I had to stand out in the wind for a half hour waiting for the next one.  Then when it did come it took us to a parking lot in town where we had to change buses and wait another 15 minutes.  I was not a happy camper!!  The bus was full of a few Regent folks plus two other ship's passengers.  One was a MSC cruise ship with a bunch of noisy Italians.  Note to myself:  NEVER go on a MSC cruise!!
Back on the ship at 1:30 so had a light late lunch as we are going to Prime 7 for dinner tonight with Susanne Peters.  Not sure why, since most everyone is off the ship, but having a hard time uploading today's photos.  Rebecca stayed on board today to read another book.
We enjoyed dinner last night with John and Cathy Begg again.  After dinner we went to see Terry Bishop's show.  We had not seen him perform before but we really enjoyed listening to him sing some unusual songs while playing an electric guitar.  Want to be sure to see tonight's show featuring that great comedian and trumpet player, Steve Stevens.
Jamie said his boss the VP of Entertainment is coming on board this afternoon and will be here a few days.  He stopped me this morning to tell me this as he knows I am not happy about the new NCL production cast and may want to express my views with her.

We will be sailing this evening at 8:00 pm for our next port which is Monte Carlo.  Planning a noon arrival.
